6. Committees

The Executive Board of the Student Organizations of Library & Information Science (SOLIS) appoints standing and ad hoc committees to carry out SOLIS plans, services, and activities. All committee members must be members in good standing of SOLIS. Committees are led by a chair who is appointed to a one-year term at the first SOLIS meeting following elections. Committee chairs are responsible for recruiting members to their committee, setting up meetings, and communicating with the committee members as needed. Members interested in joining a committee should contact the committee chair.




6.1 Socials Committee

  • The Socials Committee is responsible for organizing activities in conjunction with the two organizations in SOLIS. In general, the committee attempts to schedule one event per month. The committee meets once or twice per year to schedule out the events with details coordinated via email. Previous events include: Tampa Theatre Tour, Back to School BBQ, Visits to the Dali Museum, Roller Derby, USF Football Game, Renaissance Festival, Holocaust Museum and Thanksgiving Potluck.

6.2 Awards Committee

  • The Scholarship Committee is responsible for managing the SOLIS professional organization membership scholarships awarded each year. This involves publicizing the scholarship application period, creating the tool for scholarship applications, and reviewing the applications that are received. The committee is also responsible for coordinating the School of Information professional conference scholarship as needed. It should be noted that committee members are not eligible to receive the professional organization membership scholarships. 6.3 Policy & Procedures Committee

  • The Policy & Procedures Committee is responsible for maintaining the Policy & Procedures wiki, as well as for managing the review process each year of the official SOLIS Policies & Procedures. Once the review process is completed, an official version of the manual should be created from the wiki and uploaded to the SOLIS archives. The committee is traditionally chaired by the Archivist.


6.4 Brown Bag Committee

  • Currently inactive as of 9/15/2016.

6.5 Outreach Committee

  • The Outreach Committee is responsible for finding speakers and alternate locations for meetings, arranging for School of Information faculty research presentations during the semester, and seeking new ways to connect SOLIS members with their communities in Tampa Bay and beyond. Both Presidents are automatically members of the Outreach Committee.


6.6 Fundraising Committee

  • The Fundraising Committee is responsible for initiating fundraising events and raising the monies necessary to support events and fund travel to the FLA annual conference and Library Day in Tallahassee. Primary activities have included a book sale each semester and t-shirt sales.


6.7 Communications Committee

  • The Communications Committee is responsible for coordinating SOLIS communications internally and externally. Primary functions include, but are not limited to, public relations, marketing, surveying members, creating and executing membership campaigns, as well as developing policies for the dissemination of information about SOLIS events, news and announcements.


6.8 Elections Committee

  • The Elections Committee coordinates the fall and spring elections for SOLIS officers. (See Elections ) The committee is responsible for setting the deadlines for application and election timelines, as well as creating the survey tool used for the election. The committee must publicize the election process and election results to all members.
